Interior Minister Izkia Siches for internal criticism of her performance: “More than friendly fire, I think there are expectations”

Shortly after completing two months since her arrival at La Moneda as Minister of the Interior of the government of President Gabriel Boric, Izkia Siches addressed the criticism she has received regarding her performance, after having to go out to clarify her own statements and face Public Security the crises that have occurred both in the north and in the south.

And it is that the chief of staff has been forced to make changes to her team in the face of internal questions and a contingency that she must deal with on a daily basis. In any case, the President of the Republic continues to see her as a key member of the government’s narrative, and Izkia Siches knows it. In fact, in a recent interview, she stated: “More than friendly fire, I think there are expectations.”

in conversation with The country of Spain, Minister Siches pointed out that “perhaps one always has to deal with press speculation and personal aggression. And that is something that I, prior to taking office as minister and when asked about candidates, always raised: we have a duty, as politicians and politicians, to work for a more friendly climate”.

The head of the Interior portfolio pointed out that “it discourages very good profiles of brilliant people who would be a great contribution to the State, to Parliament, and who are not available because the environment is so toxic.” According to Izkia Siches, “there is pressure, from the same political actors. And all of us who have assumed positions of representation or positions of presidential definition, have had to experience it with greater or lesser intensity.”

In that sense, regarding the questions coming from her own sector, Minister Siches pointed out that “more than friendly fire, I think there are expectations in the performance of my position and we have been working hard as the Ministry of the Interior to, precisely, be at the level of those expectations.

“I hope that not only people from our coalition, but also citizens, will be able to see the actions that we are undertaking,” he declared.

It is worth mentioning that one of the most critical episodes for Izkia Siches occurred on Wednesday, April 6, when he commented that a plane with expelled migrants had returned to Chile with all its passengers. Said information turned out to be false and the own goal forced a series of efforts to stop the crisis that the head of the Interior triggered. And, incidentally, he exposed tensions in the team that Gabriel Boric appointed for his first line in La Moneda.

On that occasion, both Minister Camila Vallejo and her counterpart Giorgio Jackson as well as President Boric himself came out to give her their support, ensuring that the parliamentarians from Approve Dignidad did not come out to criticize Minister Siches, even though, internally, the view of the ministers themselves was quite critical.
