The Ministry of Interior detected an irregular entry to the file of the Frente Amplista senator Charles Carrera and none to the Mario Bergara.
The ministry released this statement after it was revealed that a Miami-based company asked the former head of custody of President Luis Lacalle Pou, Alejandro Astesiano, to prepare “files” on Carrera and Bergara, two of the senators who denounced government hierarchs for the extension to Katoen Natie of the concession in the Port of Montevideo.
In a press release, the Ministry of the Interior clarified that the August 28, 2022, an official entered from the National Directorate of Migration that performs functions in Aceguá to the Career file in the Public Security Management System (SGSP).
“What the admission had no justification, an indictment was ordered with dismissal from officetaking the corresponding disciplinary measures in all cases in which the SGSP is entered without justification,” he said.
The case had political repercussions in the last hours. This Tuesday, the Broad Front bench coordinator, Liliam Kechichian, contacted Vice President Beatriz Argimón to ask her for an inter-party meeting to discuss “the affectation of the privileges that this news means”. After the meeting that took place this Wednesday afternoon, it was resolved that the Senate convened an extraordinary session in “repudiation of the practices” against Bergara and Carrera.
There were no orders to the Ministry of the Interior
In the statement, it is explained that “none” of four dependencies (the Directorate of Investigations of the National Police, the General Directorate for the Fight Against Organized Crime and INTERPOL, the General Directorate of Police Information and Intelligence and the Directorate of Complex Facts) “an order was received” nor did it carry out on its own “any investigation into Bergara or Carrera”“nor any other” parliamentarian.
