Complaints from citizens about the intention of Inparques to make a “wall of caps” in the Parque del Este meant that the work was not carried out. However, when cleaning again the concrete that would be used as a canvas for the mural, which is in Parking Lot 1 of these facilities, it suffered some damage because they used pickaxes in certain parts and when passing a jet of water with a hydrojet damages the structure
The National Institute of Parks (Inparques), apparently, had the intention of making a mural of tapas in the Parque del Este –current Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda park– and thus continue with an ecological wave like the one that the artist Oscar Ollarves did in Guatire and which is considered the largest in the world.
The complaint came through social networks, specifically through the account called “East Park” where the authorities of the park and the Ministry of Ecosocialism were accused of wanting to do this type of work on one of the concrete walls of the work of the Brazilian architect Roberto Burle Marx, specifically that of Parking Lot 1 (which is towards Francisco de Miranda).
We make a call to @UNHCR_Venezuela since this mural is being promoted by an ambassador of said institution. Parque del Este is an exceptional work considered by experts with sufficient attributes for a UNESCO declaration as a World Heritage Site

This complaint was read and replicated by several people on Twitter who criticized the initiative, because in their opinion it violates what is the architectural work of Burle Marx, since it would damage the structure planned by the artist when designing the Parque del Este.

Even the artist Oscar Ovalles himself had to come out and say that he was not involved in this Inparques initiative, after he was labeled by many users on the aforementioned social network.
I am not related to any tapas mural in the Parque del Este.
I am in Porlamar working on a mural and then we will do another one in Maracaibo. All our murals are coordinated months in advance that allow us to evaluate all the details and the space of the work.

That even motivated a pronouncement by the Venezuelan Society of Landscape Architects (SVAP). in su communicated They explain that they recognize the work of Burle Marx as “a celebration of the ecology and landscapes of Venezuela”, for which they warn that if there is an intervention of any kind that affects its integrity “it must be considered as a threat”.
And with the text, the SVAP ensures that it makes efforts with organizations at the international level to be able to preserve the park and prevent them from damaging its condition of being declared heritage; which, in his opinion, should be preserved by the authorities that are responsible for its administration.
María Gabriela Ochoa, who is an architect from the Central University of Venezuela, with a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University, spoke on the morning of this Friday, February 17 at the wave circuit on the controversy and recalled that Parque del Este is Burle Marx’s main work outside of Brazil and is considered “the Mona Lisa for landscape artists”
In addition, Ochoa highlighted in the interview that there are written plans on how to manage the park and to do the maintenance that each part of the structure requires.
All the complaints led to the fact that, in the end, the space that was planned to be used as a canvas for the covers and an ecological mural was cleaned with a hydrojet. But that did not end there, but the work also involved some blows from the pickaxe that, when the hydrojet passes through it, further damage the wall.
The controversy over the highly questioned tapitas mural seems to conclude today with a hydrojet cleaning of the clean construction concrete wall that borders the access to parking lot 1.
Amazement and great pleasure for the massive reaction of people and groups aware of the value of heritage! pic.twitter.com/BVl5BKXpAv— The EAST PARK (@ParqueDelEste) February 17, 2023
With a clean pick they deteriorated more.
The areas of #CleanWork pecked they crumble and they will do it MORE when passing the hydrojet.
what is the plan sir @JosueLorcaV?
Stop improvising, this job requires a restoration expert. pic.twitter.com/F93d7XPrmu— The EAST PARK (@ParqueDelEste) February 17, 2023
This is not the first time that Gaceta No. 36,490, promulgated on July 7, 1998, has been violated in the Parque del Este, where it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and considered the best public work of the master of modern landscape Roberto Burle- marx.
In 2019 they denounced the execution on the concrete wall in clean work belonging to the Patios de Azulejos, or Patios de los mosaicos, in the northern area of Parque del Este, with a multicolored mural that went against all plastic, aesthetic values , architectural, landscape and patrimonial aspects of the Patios defined by these same walls.
In addition, there is the construction of an extreme sports field in another of the Parque del Este parking lots, where the cisterns are supplied with water to supply the communities of Caracas.
