Intense rains cause floods and landslides in Huancavelica

The intense rain that lasted more than an hour in the province of Churcampa (Huancavelica), caused a landslide on the Huancavelica – Ayacucho national highway. Also, flooding was recorded in the capital district, affecting homes and the public technological higher institute.

At approximately 3 in the afternoon, rainfall began, which generated an increase in the flow of a stream, located near the town, which flooded a house that was built in a rigid area. The force of the water crossed to the Higher Technological Institute of Churcampa, located on Av. Cultura, in the district of Churcampa.

The director of the institute, Edelmiro Quispe Palomino, explained through a telephone call that he was informed about the damage caused by the rains on a preliminary basis. The water entered a laboratory, two classrooms and the patio. A Rotoplas was also broken and four computers were damaged. Part of the perimeter fence wall that was declared an emergency two years ago collapsed.

The rain also caused landslides on the Huancavelica – Ayacucho national highway, in the Izcuchaca – Mayocc section. In the Santa Elena sector, in the Anco district, Churcampa, the road was blocked by mud and stones in two points.

The head of the regional directorate of Civil Defense of Huancavelica, Isabel Carrasco, asked the population to take preventive measures and stay safe.
