The Municipality of Maldonado will seek to discourage the speed of the vehicles that circulate on the Leonel Viera bridge, known as La Barra. One of them has structural damage and is being repaired.
The authorities plan to place speed bumps on the two bridges for the next summer season, according to official sources told The Observer.
For his part, the director of the construction company Saceem, Alejandro Ruibal, said on Wednesday that it is necessary to discourage the speed of the passage of vehicles. He considered that it “should not” happen that drivers use speed for fun, over bridges. “It will be necessary to see how it is controlled and perhaps it is necessary to put the radars that fine”, added.
Each bridge has an extension of 150 meters, and it is a tourist place that is characterized by its corrugated construction.
The Municipality of Maldonado evaluates these days what will be the future on the control or traffic ordinance in the place; both in the original bridge and in the current one, which is under repair.
In the first stage of repair, the aim is to shore up the bridge so that it can receive light traffic in the summer season of 2023.
The situation, according to several authorities, is serious. “We are working to avoid the fall from the first day”, expressed to The Observer this Tuesday the mayor Enrique Antía, in a job that he assured is “a race against time”.
