This Thursday the coordinators of the benches of the parties with representation in the Parliament met to urgently deal with matters related to the complaint filed by the director of Intelligence, Álvaro Garcé, for the leak of confidential information about the Estaco’s Strategic Intelligence Plan that occurred during a secret session of a parliamentary commission. During this meeting, the ruling party proposed that the legislators appear before the Prosecutor’s Office, and there was even an exhortation to allow their cell phones to be examined.
“We urge, all together, the legislators who were present in that commission to voluntarily attend the Prosecutor’s Office in order to clarify this entire process, which we are interested in clarifying,” said the president of the General Assembly and vice president of the Republic, Beatriz Argimon.
In addition, the hierarch explained that the deputy César Vega of PERI proposed that legislators make their cell phones available so that they can carry out an expertise.
The president of the House of Representatives, Ope Pasquet, said that “legislators and officials who were present at that session in which the director of Intelligence delivered that information are urged to voluntarily appear before the investigating Prosecutor’s Office, put at their disposition and give all the explanations that are asked of them”.
That they investigate the Executive, asks Kechichian
The senator of the Broad Front, Liliam Kechichian, expressed her desire to “know the whole truth” about such a “sad episode.” However, she distanced herself from her colleagues by disagreeing that “all eyes are on the senators.”
From the opposition they maintain that the leaked document was circulated by various state agencies outside the parliamentary sphere. Within these instances, Kechichian named the Ministries of the Interior, Defense and Economy, in addition to other agencies that coordinate with the one headed by Garcé.
In addition, the legislator argued that Garcé failed to guarantee that this document was handled with extreme traceability. She, therefore, considers that it should be investigated within the Executive Power itself to rule out whether the leak occurred from it.
However, Senator Raúl Lozano, from Cabildo Abierto, disagreed with Kechichian by saying that the information that was disseminated in the press included data that was discussed by legislators.
The legislators present were César Vega, Daniel Caggiani, Iván Posada, Sebastián Andújar, Micaela Melgar, Graciela Bianchi, Luis Alberto Posse, Raúl Batlle, Mariano Tucci, Gustavo Penadés, Mario Bergara, Álvaro Viviano, Diego Reyes. Raúl Lozano presided.
