Institutions and authorities of Santa Cruz They announced that they will abide by the 11 determinations of the Assembly of the Santa Cruz community, including the 24-hour strike scheduled for Friday, September 6. The Mayor of Santa Cruz de la Sierra will only comment on these measures on Wednesday.
The Agricultural Chamber of the East (CAO) announced that they will support the 24-hour strike as a measure of rejection of the results of the 2024 Population and Housing Census that were revealed by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
“The strike is a detriment to all Bolivians. We have always asked for free transitability, But as members of the Santa Cruz Assembly, we will support this measure (the strike),” said the president of the CAO, José Luis Farah.
The rector of the Autonomous University Gabriel René Moreno (Uagrm), Vicente Cuéllar, participated in the Assembly of the Cruceñidad and questioned the results of the 2024 Census by assuring that the department of Santa Cruz They did not count 373,562 inhabitants, according to a study carried out by technicians from the state university.
Cuéllar was satisfied with the 11 determinations of the Assembly as measures of rejection for the results of the census and announced that they will abide by the civic strike announced for Friday.
Mayor Jhonny Fernandez did not attend the assembly, but this Tuesday He made it clear that he did not agree with the data revealed by the INE regarding the 2024 Census and requested that the measures adopted not be political.
Representing Fernández, the municipal secretary for Planning, Mariana Daga, attended the meeting. The interim governor was present from Santa Cruz, Mario Aguilera.
For his part, the president of the Parliamentary Brigade, Richard Ribera, questioned the decision of the 24-hour strike and said that Fernando Larach, president of the Civic Committee, made “unilateral decisions in the true style of this centralist government of the MAS.”
“Was it necessary to fill the street with thugs? His actions contradict the demands of our people and the region. It was a historic opportunity for Mr. Larach, after so much inaction, omissions and mistakes, to show himself as a factor of unity, but he chose the same path as the MAS: to continue to disregard and discriminate against the people of Santa Cruz,” he wrote on his social networks.
Ribera indicated that the announced strike does not put pressure to the INE and that this measure is motivated by Larach, which considered that it is an attitude contrary to the principles of the Pro Santa Cruz Committee.
“The attitude of dividing is typical of the MAS and only benefits the MAS. And as a protest, today it calls for a strike that does not condition or pressure, and that just invites us to stop so we can say that they did something. We also do not understand or approve that Mr. Larach, after omitting the participation of the parliamentarians, feels entitled to give orders and demand from the Cruceña Brigade what, apparently, he does not know was already done in 2022,” he questioned.
Deputy Luisa Nayar also questioned the assembly’s decision by stating that “They are a salute to the flag and unacceptable” and regretted that parliamentarians were not allowed to enter the meeting.
“The resolutions of the Assembly of the Cruceñidad are a salute to the flag and are inadmissible. They constitute a tacit acceptance of the results of the census, after the right to protest (24-hour strike on Friday). Demanding that we parliamentarians (those who were not allowed to enter the blessed assembly) Let’s introduce a law to make an intercensal survey feasible (a bill that we already presented in March 2022),” he wrote on his social networks.
While the president of the Azules del Oriente, Alpacino Mojica, told Bolivia Tv that the proposals of the Assembly of the Cruceñidad They seek to harm the country’s economy with blockades and asked the leaders of the civic committee to “generate something productive” for the department of Santa Cruz.
Besides, Mojica called those who participated in the assembly “loggers” and demanded that the rector of Uagrme get to work for the state university.
