After officially inaugurating the cardiology Institute of Highly Specialized Medicine (IMAE), President Lacalle Pou stated that Tacuarembó “is a reference in State services.”
It is the first public cardiac center in the country with these characteristics, which since its start-up has performed some 200 procedures. In addition, it offers accommodation for companions of patients who do not reside in that department.

The cardiology IMAE is the first of its kind in the public sphere and works as an extension of the University Cardiovascular Center (CCVU) of the Hospital de Clínicas. In addition, its operations are financed by the National Resources Fund (FNR).

Cipriani pointed out that they were patients from the northern region of Uruguay who should not have traveled 400 kilometers to Montevideo to undergo the necessary cardiac procedures.
In addition, the institute offers the possibility of accommodation for those accompanying patients who do not reside in Tacuarembó.
For its realization, Uruguay has invested gradually, Cipriani explained. In the 2022 Accountability, the Government allocated funds for some 45,000,000 pesos to materialize the service.
Together with the encephalic IMAE for the treatment of cerebrovascular accidents (ACV), it makes up the two institutes that are operating in the Tacuarembó hospital, located at Calle Treinta y Tres Orientales 444, in the city of the same name.
