Inspection at Palácio do Planalto finds no threat, says GSI

A sweep of the perimeter around the Palácio do Planalto, carried out by agents from the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI), on Wednesday night 913), did not find explosives or any other threat to the security of the presidential headquarters. The information comes from General Marco Antonio Amaro do Santos, chief minister of the GSI, who accompanied an inspection in Planalto, hours after the explosions that resulted in the death of a man, in Praça dos Três Poderes, in what is being treated, in a preliminary way, as an attack. Inspection at Palácio do Planalto finds no threat, says GSI

“The perimeter was reinforced, an external sweep was carried out, an internal sweep was being carried out, nothing was found,” said the minister. The Special Operations Battalion (BOPE) of the DF Military Police takes a wider scan around the entire perimeter of Praça dos Três Poderes to identify possible other threats, but nothing was found until the last update.

The identity of the man who was allegedly the victim of an explosive device detonated, allegedly by himself, has not yet been revealed. The Government of the Federal District (GDF) awaits the completion of the body expertise.

In addition to two explosions in Praça dos Três Poderes, a car parked near Annex 4 of the Chamber of Deputies also had explosive devices detonated inside. THE owner of this vehicle Francisco Wanderley Luiz, known as Tiu França, from Rio do Sul (SC) was identified. According to the DF Military Police, the two explosions are related to the same incident.

Regarding the security of the Palácio do Planalto, General Marco Amaro assured that there are full working conditions for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Thursday (14), but that this decision is up to the presidential office.

“That depends on his office maintaining the agenda [no Palácio do Planalto]. In principle, yes. We see no reason to suspend the agenda, but it’s not up to us to decide”, he noted.

According to the official agenda, Lula will receive letters of credentials from several ambassadors throughout the morning, in a ceremony at Planalto. In the afternoon, the president leaves for Rio de Janeiro, where he will participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit in the coming days. The capital of Rio will host dozens of heads of state and government from the richest countries on the planet.

Tonight, Lula is at Palácio da Alvorada, his official residence, which also had access blocked and security reinforced. The president received visits from the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, and some ministers from the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
