Insecurity soars in Granada, they report an increase in armed assaults

Johan Aguirre, originally from the Island of Ometepe, in Rivas, arrived in Granada on March 8 to enjoy the beauties of the colonial city, without imagining that he would be surprised by the crime that plagues the streets of the tourist municipality.

The visitor stayed at a hotel located in the center of the city, without imagining that his vehicle would suffer the consequences due to the insecurity that prevails in the place. He recounts that at approximately 2:40 in the morning on Friday, March 10, the security cameras of the place captured the precise moment in which a man with a stocky build, who wore a cap, sweatshirt, and shorts, approached the truck of his property to steal automotive parts.

According to the victim, “the criminal ripped off the rear view mirrors” and “the tire caps” of the truck, which was parked on the edge of Calle La Libertad.

The subject decides to get out of his car and secretly begins to check his vehicle.

Several minutes later, the images were captured when the taxi driver opens the lid of the vehicle that is not his, and removes the battery and then leaves in his taxi.

The owner of the stolen vehicle, identified as Luis Aguilar, assured that he reported it to the police authorities, who in less than 24 hours captured the subject and recovered the car battery.

“We are going to mediate for the money that I have spent because I was left without a car and had to pay a taxi to move, in addition to renting a battery to be able to bring my car,” Aguilar said. “According to what they tell me, (the taxi driver) has a history of stealing batteries, it seems that this is his hobby,” he added.
