In the beginning, the tourism that received our country resembled a passenger wave: visitors who arrived as part of the tide. Later the traveler who enjoys the authentic without giving up comfort was profiled. And, still incipient, limited by deficiencies in infrastructure, human resources training, quality of services and sustainability, the pilgrim of the serene luxury begins to be present, the one who seeks unique experiences.
It is a transformation in the composition of our tourism that is unapolable. We are already three quarters of the journey so that the annual number of tourists equals the local population, and it is urgent to avoid repeating in our destination the evils that others have suffered: the loss of empathy of the population towards the visitor, the result of the hostility that generate accumulated deficits and of not having limited the weight of mass tourism in time.

He Dominican tourism He has reached its maturity. Continuing relying on mass tourism would be the easiest, for its minor demands, but also the most unsustainable. Making an immediate leap towards premium tourism is still unfeasible, although that niche can be used marginally.
The great bet must then be the average tourist: the one who seeks comfort, diversity of memorable options and experiences at a reasonable price. It does not pursue extreme luxury, but it values comfort, moderate authenticity and the good relationship between quality and price.
What to do for our country to become increasingly attractive to this traveler?
Investment in accessible and functional infrastructuretogether with three and four stars hotels and all-climbing medium-high range resorts.
Expanding gastronomic offer, with restaurants that provide local and international quality cuisine at reasonable prices.
Reliable and efficient transport, with insurance transfers, regulated taxis, mobility applications, practical airports and competitive air connectivity.
Varied and accessible experiences, from cultural excursions, museums and historical tours, to nature tourism on beaches, mountains and parks; Organized activities such as water sports, hiking or urban tours and options designed for both families, couples or groups of friends.
Security and stability, essential conditions for tourists to feel confidence in their destination.
The country has advanced a lot in the construction of this offer, but it remains even more to do.
