The entity is examining the possible dismissal of the director of La Picota after the murder of Francisco Luis Correa.
In statements to RCN Radio, Colonel Rolando Ramírez, deputy director of the National Prison and Penitentiary Institute (Inpec), confirmed that the entity has initiated a disciplinary investigation after the murder of Francisco Luis Correa Galeano, a key witness in the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.
In addition, the officer said that the possibility of remove from office the director (e) of the La Picota prison Johan López after Correa’s death.
Correa’s death, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, January 3, in La Picota prison, has generated a series of questions about security inside the prison and the responsibilities of officials responsible for its custody.

Ramírez explained that, according to preliminary investigations, Correa’s death was a crime that occurred late at night, and that, after an analysis carried out by the Inpec judicial police personnel, it was obtained crucial information from some inmates who collaborated voluntarily.
The officer added that Inpec has ordered an exhaustive disciplinary investigation to determine if there was any omission on the part of the officials on duty at the time of the homicide.
“We are checking if there was any negligence in complying with security measures, such as checking cells, and whether the possession of prohibited items was allowed within the establishment,” said Ramírez.

On the other hand, on the morning of Sunday, January 5, it was learned that Iván José de la Rosa, accused of killing Stefanny Barranco in the Santafé shopping center, was found dead in his cell in La Picota prison in Bogotá.
Regarding the issue, the deputy director of Inpec confirmed that it was a suicide that occurred in the medium security pavilion and the preliminary versions would indicate that the prisoner hanged himself.
“There are some background in the history of the deceased who perhaps had some psychiatric issues and that could have led him to make that fateful decision. However, these are difficult times that a person deprived of liberty lives through,” concluded Colonel Rolando Ramírez.
