Antel plans to reach 500 sites with 5G services in 2024

During the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the public telecommunications company, its president, Annabela Suburú, recalled the technological evolution and progress in services experienced since the foundation of that entity, in 1974, for which she predicted more stages of innovation and digital transformation. In addition, she announced that by the end of 2024 Antel plans to reach 500 sites with fifth generation technology (5G).

The celebration gala held at the SODRE Adela Reta National Auditorium also included the presence of the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón; the Vice President of Antel, Diego Machín, and members of the board of directors of the aforementioned company.

Also present were the Ministers of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, and of the Environment, Robert Bouvier; the Undersecretary of Tourism, Remo Monzeglio, and the President of UTE, Silvia Emaldi.

During his speech, Suburú highlighted Antel’s position as the “absolute leader” in the mobile services market, adding that the company is close to reaching 400 5G sites. By the end of 2024, the company plans to reach 500 points with this technology.

In another order, the head of the company referred to the evolution of different technologies incorporated by the company throughout its history. In this regard, she highlighted the replacement of copper with optical fiber as a completed process and announced that it intends to stop using the copper network this year, a fact that will be considered as “a milestone.”

On the other hand, he reported that Antel surpassed 1,000,000 internet access data services and surpassed the same figure in fixed telephony. Regarding the offer of content and entertainment services, he pointed out that it will be more competitive.

Finally, Suburú said that Antel “rejuvenates with each technological change and with each challenge”, for which he predicted “many years of innovation, digital transformation and artificial intelligence”, as well as human intelligence, “at the service of the people and of a productive country”.
