Innovation and energy transition: Lula defends leadership in the industry

The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, inaugurated this Thursday (20), in the capital of São Paulo, the 31st edition of the São Paulo International Motor Show. The event, which had not been held for seven years, will be open to the public from November 22nd to 30th in the Anhembi District, in the north of the city.Innovation and energy transition: Lula defends leadership in the industry

The president highlighted that he was one of the people who called for the event to return and defended that the Salon be a milestone in Brazilian development and innovation in relation to the energy transition.

“We need to ensure that no country in the world today can compete with us when it comes to innovation for the energy transition. We still don’t know how to make a battery? Let’s learn. We still don’t know how to take care of rare earth? Let’s learn. We have businesspeople, we have a university, we have scientists, we have resources. Why are we going to be, all our lives, an importer of things that we can export?”, he said.

“It is this commitment that this show is giving and it is with this mind that I leave here to go to South Africa, for the G20 meeting. The history of the automobile industry will be marked between before and after this motor show”, he added.

The return of the Motor Show occurs amid a cycle of resumption of national production and growth in investments in innovation by the automobile industry. According to the federal government, the automotive sector has committed to investing R$140 billion in Brazil by 2033, especially in research and development, decarbonization and vehicle safety.

Modernization

According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Services, this is the biggest modernization plan ever announced by the sector. According to the ministry, the contributions were driven by Mover, a program launched by the government, and focus on electrification, energy efficiency, connectivity and new production platforms.

“Brazil has once again rediscovered its confidence, its ability to create, produce, dare and, above all, to believe in the future. Since 1960, the Show has followed each turning point in our history, the birth of pro-alcohol, the creation of flex-fuel vehicles. And now, hybrids and electric vehicles”, highlighted the president of the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), Igor Calvet.

Among the brands confirmed in the current edition of the show are BYD, Caoa, Caoa Chery, Citroën, Denza, Fiat, GAC, Geely, GWM, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Kia, Leapmotor, Lecar, GM Motors, Mitsubishi, Omoda & Jaecoo, Peugeot, RAM, Renault, Suzuki Motos, Toyota and Vespa.

“This edition symbolizes the public’s reunion with the Motor Show, an event that has always represented Brazilians’ passion for cars, technology and innovation. More than 300 vehicles will be on display, in a program full of immersive and interactive experiences that promise to surprise, excite and reconnect the public with the automotive universe”, highlighted the executive manager of the Motor Show, Thiago Braga Ferreira.
