Authorities from the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) and the National Institute for Women (Inmujeres) announced, this November 1, the activities to be carried out this month, as well as the guidelines of the National Plan for a Life Free of Violence 2022- 2024 and data from the digital violence monitor. “You have to be intolerant of any expression of physical or moral violence,” said Minister Martín Lema.
The undersecretary of the organization, Andrea Brugman, also participated in the activity; the head of Inmujeres, Mónica Bottero; the national director of Gender Policies of the Ministry of the Interior, Angelina Ferreira; and the director of the Institute’s Gender-Based Violence Division, Karina Ruiz.
In his speech, Lema recognized the work of Inmujeres and its coordination with other institutions, to promote the efficiency of the measures. “When we talk about violence, we mean any kind of violence,” she emphasized. Likewise, he referred to the fact that these measures are based on information obtained through the last survey on the subject, carried out in 2019, and expressed that the country has the necessary equipment to reverse these situations.
For his part, Bottero said that work is being done throughout the State to reverse situations of gender-based violence, adding that public institutions assume responsibility for providing the necessary responses. Regarding the national plan For a Life Free of Violence 2022-2024, he expressed that some of the proposed measures have already been executed and others are in application.
In the instance, the hierarch alluded to the figures of the digital violence monitor, carried out in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), for which 180 women journalists, communicators, artists, politicians and activists with public performance. Bottero said that the results reflect the violence to which these women were subjected on the social network Twitter, and stressed the need to work in this regard so that those who carry out this type of action assume responsibility.
Meanwhile, Ferreira was responsible in his speech for detailing the guidelines of the plan. On this, he highlighted the inter-institutional work between the member organizations of the National Gender Council and civil society. In addition, he reported that the objective is to guarantee a life free of violence and strengthen the capacity of institutions to respond to this issue.

Digital Violence Monitor
The digital violence monitor took the data from the social network Twitter between March 1, 2022 and October 25, and found that the 180 women studied received more than 97,000 violent posts, which means 11% of the interactions. Among the most frequent insults, contempt for their abilities, disavowal of their speeches and allusions to their bodies and sexuality were recorded.
