Inmet clarifies that for the structure of an ZCAS to exist, this moisture channel must persist for at least four consecutive days. Therefore, the institute advises monitoring new climate forecasts and observing the persistence of the cloud cover.

Inmet’s alert covers the second Sunday of exams for the 2024 National High School Exam (Enem), next Sunday (10). Those enrolled will test their knowledge on 90 multiple-choice questions on natural sciences (chemistry, physics and biology) and mathematics.

Inmet also issued a meteorological warning orangewhich indicates danger due to intense rains across the entire area of ​​the states of Goiás, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rondônia and Distrito Federal, as well as part of Tocantins, in the Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, in central region of Minas Gerais, in the extreme west of Bahia, in the center-south of Amazonas and west of Santa Catarina, and the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

The warning is valid between 1 pm this Thursday (7) and 10 am this Friday (8). Rain can reach up to 60 millimeters per hour (mm/h) and intense winds can reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour (km/h). According to the institution, there is a risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.

According to the severity of meteorological phenomena, Inmet classifies alerts by color. Yellow represents potential danger. While, orange means danger. The most alarming is the red one, which represents danger.

São Paulo

Specifically for the state of São Paulo, Inmet has a meteorological warning of orange level which indicates great danger caused by storms until the early afternoon of this Thursday in Itapetininga, on the south coast of São Paulo, and also in the macro metropolitan area of ​​São Paulo, an area that covers the following metropolitan regions: São Paulo, Baixada Santista, Campinas, metropolitan region of Vale do Paraíba and the north coast of São Paulo.

State Civil Defense alert for heavy rain which will reach all regions of São Paulo between this Thursday (7) and Friday (8).

Accumulated rainfall levels may vary between high and very high, with greater risk being paid to the regions of the municipalities of Marília and Presidente Prudente. In the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Vale do Ribeira, regions of Itapeva, Sorocaba, Campinas, Baixada Santista, north coast, Vale do Paraíba, São José do Rio Preto, Araçatuba, Barretos, Franca and Ribeirão Preto, the level of accumulated rainfall will be very high.

The São Paulo Civil Defense highlights special attention to the regions of Bauru and Araraquara, as the levels will be even higher. Rain may be accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind and the possibility of hail. This alert is due to the passage of a cold front along the coast of the southeast region, which will create conditions for heavy rain showers, as well as conditions for storms.

Paraná

In Paraná, heavy rains caused flooding in the city of General Carneiro, in the south of Paraná, in the early hours of this Thursday (7). Civil Defense professionals and the Paraná Military Fire Department (CBMPR) work in partnership with the municipality to assist victims.

Preliminary information from the state government indicates that approximately 200 people had to leave their homes due to the most critical water level situation.

Guidelines

In case of gusts of wind, the advice is not to take shelter under trees, as there is a risk of falling and electrical discharges, and not to park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs, when there is a risk of falls.

At home and commercial establishments, it is best to turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply, if possible.

In case of emergencies, the local Military Fire Department must be contacted by calling 193. And for more information, the state Civil Defense number is 199.
