Inmates beat one accused of assaulting Carabineros in Iquique in the Penitentiary Center

It was reported that inside the Iquique Penitentiary Center, inmates beat one of the four Venezuelans charged in the attack on Carabineros last month in the Cavancha beach sector.

The four migrants have been in preventive detention since January 26 after being formalized for the crime of mistreating police officers with serious and less serious injuries. In addition, two of them had microtrafficking added.

According to what was reported, the aggression was carried out by cellmates. The affected ended up with bruises and was transferred to the prison infirmary. In turn, another of the defendants was thrown objects.

From the Gendarmerie they indicated that for their safety, the defendants will be transferred from the module: “The affected person was referred by prison staff to the unit’s infirmary, to verify injuries. Preventively, and to protect her physical integrity, she was transferred to the module, along with another defendant, and is currently protected from the rest of the prison population.

The records were sent to the Public Ministry and the prison institution will initiate the corresponding investigation.

“The Gendarmerie reiterates its firm commitment to the protection of persons deprived of liberty and who are in penal units by order of the Courts of Justice,” they added.
