Havana Cuba. – From the Guantanamo Provincial Prison, a most rigorous prison located in the easternmost of the Cuban provinces, the prisoner Arturo Acosta Ramos denounces the constant harassment of which he is a victim by the prison authorities of that facility.
Previously, the prisoner disclosed that on December 21, 2022, while he was sleeping, was assaulted by a psychiatric patient of violent history that they placed in his cell in detachment 4 D by order of the head of the psychologists, and stressed that the aforementioned inmate, who is nicknamed “The Patient”, presents certain psychiatric pathologies that condition aggressive and dangerous behavior incompatible with collective life in prison.
On this occasion, Acosta Ramos indicated through a telephone conversation that on January 9, while he was in detachment 2A, Lieutenant Colonel Marcelino Bueno Tavera, head of the prison, and the deputy head of the unit, Major Yorkis Castellanos Bulies, They had the aforementioned psychiatric patient transferred back to the cell where he was.
The inmate pointed out that in response to his complaints -because both leaders are aware of the aggression that occurred previously- the military replied that “this was a prison, and that they are in charge.”
Acosta Ramos indicated that after that he was transferred back to detachment 4D, where the conditions are more extreme. As an example, the inmate mentioned that they get their food through the door. In this sense, he also expanded that the food is poorly prepared, the rice has no salt or oil; what they call soup is the water in which the food has been boiled, without salt or seasonings; the main course is not known what it is composed of, and breakfast consists of hot flour with weevils and sour bread.
Then he also reiterated that on more than seven occasions he has requested that he be transferred to the Santiago de Cuba prison, since there he has a sister who could take charge of his visits; however, the military respond that there is no possibility of transfer.
Arturo Acosta Ramos is a native of Havana. He was serving a sentence in the Combinado del Este, but was transferred to the other end of the country in retaliation for collaborating with the protesters of the 11J imprisoned after the repressive wave of 2021, therefore his father, old and sick, has not been able to visit him since then.
In the same way, he stressed that in that prison his life has been in danger on more than one occasion without the prison managers having taken measures to avoid it, therefore he holds them responsible for what may happen to him.
