Injured worker dies in explosion at Invegas plant

State company employees reported that the presence of workers in the area, paralyzed for two years, was due to an order from the CVG that sent personnel from Sidor and PDVSA to work on its recovery.

Fajardo was transferred in the morning in an ambulance from the Casim Plant Steel Complexa, state contiguous to Invegas, and his state of health was serious. The news of his death was disseminated by company workers on Wednesday night, who reported that the worker could not bear the operation he required after presenting fractures of the skull, ribs and lung perforation.

Workers also informed Caroní Mail that this area of ​​the plant had been paralyzed for several years, industrial oxygen cylinders were kept there, used to fuel the furnaces and speed up the production process.

The explosion happened when workers from the Steelworks of the Orinoco (Sidor)collaborated in the recovery process of the area.

As far as is known, and according to official information issued by the National Guard, six workers were injured: Simón Maurera (Sidor), Noel Salazar (PDVSA), Maribel Torres (Sidor), Dinoira Padrón (Sidor), Jhonny Jiménez (Sidor ), Santos Acosta (Sidor), Ely Valderrey (Sidor), Richard Andrade (Sidor), José Gutiérrez (Invegas) and Keliana Rodríguez (Invegas).

Likewise, it transpired that Invegas workers are currently part of the Casima Plant payroll.

“We don’t know what caused the explosion, but that plant has been idle for a long time. As workers we are finding out that this was being recovered by Sidor personnel, they were working there; but that is now under the responsibility of Planta Casima. That industrial oxygen area belongs to the Casima Plant,” said a company worker.

For his part, another worker from the Casima Plant stated that the lack of investment and the lack of complete crews of workers to work in each area is what causes this type of accident.

Recently, a worker sidor suffered an accident that left him with an injury to a finger on his right hand, an event that the workers assure is a consequence of the lack of workers in the areas.
