The massive police deployment that was perceived, especially in Managua, during the festivities in honor of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, was not enough to reduce the crime and accidents that were recorded in Nicaragua.
Between December 7 and 8, according to reports from the National Police and the Ministry of Health (Minsa), at least 10 people were injured due to the handling of gunpowder, 7 died in traffic accidents and three homicidal deaths.

The Minsa, through official media, released a statement in which it detailed that there were 10 people injured by gunpowder, of which two required admission to a hospital, although they are in “stable condition.”
The injured people were reported in the departments of Managua (9), and in the Southern Caribbean (1). The majority of these are men (7) and the rest are women (3).
The authorities reported that only three of these injuries were minors. The others were between 30 and 39 years old (4); from 40 to 49 years (1); and in more than 50 years (2).
The devices that were manipulated by the injured people were bombs (5), noise killer bomb (1), cachinflin (1), rocket (1), and triquitracas or closed charge (2).
More than 200 traffic accidents
The National Police, in the report released this Monday by Inspector General Jaime Vanegas, detailed that during those 48 hours in the nation, 243 traffic accidents were reported, which left at least 7 fatalities on the roads.
The main causes of accidents with fatalities were speeding, drunkenness and pedestrian recklessness. The people who perished were drivers (5), passenger (1) and pedestrian (1).

Deaths on the roads were reported in Nueva Segovia (2), Rivas (2), Managua (1), León (1) and Boaco (1).
The institution also documented three homicidal deaths, two less than in 2023, according to Vanegas. In addition, they recorded robberies in different forms with force, intimidation and violence, although the Police only limited themselves to saying that there were 18 fewer than the previous year, without specifying the number of these documented crimes.
Article 66 learned that the Police, in addition to carrying out 1,215 inspections in workshops and gunpowder stations, closely monitored the busiest cisterns in some municipalities. In some cases, such as those in Ciudad Sandino, residents of that municipality confirmed, the attendees were photographed by the police and there were officers who even “got into the lines to ask for their cap.”
