Promoting the habit of reading and that students welcome it with pleasure will always be one of the goals that all teachers must have, so they must propose the necessary strategies for it.
Thus, the Huancavelica Local Educational Management Unit (UGEL) organized an entertaining contest of “cartonero stories”, which sought that each child can exhibit their work in a colorful activity held in Plaza Bolognesi.
During the “Provincial Festival of Cartoneros Tales”, Zaida Charapaqui Requena, a specialist from the UGEL Huancavelica in initial education, showed part of the work carried out by minors in their educational institutions.
The specialist affirmed that representatives of all the microgrids of the UGEL Huancavelica arrived.
“Children have come with their parents and their teacher, they narrated the stories that they themselves have produced, based on recycled materials,” said Charapaqui Requena.

He added: “Cartonero stories are, as their name says, they are stories made from recyclable cardboard and other materials from their context, such as sticks, herbs, leaves, even the feces of sheep, goats, etc. and other resources that they find in the environment of their own community”.
Its preparation was in three phases, at the level of specialists, teachers and parents.
These stories are not from now, they have been producing them since last March, so that they can promote the habit of reading and improve their communication skills such as reading, speaking, expressing themselves and above all, reading comprehension.
“After three years of the pandemic, in which children could not read or manipulate, for this reason, we have been implementing these strategies so that children can develop communication activities through reading,” said Charapaqui.
He also said that there are many parents who cannot buy stories, so they created their own stories.
