Residents of the town denounce that during the rains the water pools in the holes of the roads and with the passage of vehicles the liquid ends up filtering into their homes due to the lack of asphalt
Leaks and difficulties in transit face the inhabitants of the Esmeralda sector of La Vega, in the Capital District, on a daily basis. Its residents say that the roads are in poor condition and that the authorities have only paved the main roads that are in the lower part of the area.
“Public transport vehicles no longer want to go to the upper part, walking through the streets is quite an odyssey and every time it rains the water pools, when a car passes it pushes the liquid towards the houses that are on the banks of the the road”, says Yasiris Paredes, who is one of the residents of the sector.
The inhabitant of the Esmeralda sector said that since the beginning of 2022 they have observed that they have paved only in the lower part of La Vega, for which she considers that the authorities have not taken them into account in the improvement and beautification plans.

“They have only visited the sector when they are in some political activity, otherwise they do not take us into account. With the rains, the road is deteriorating more and we do not want to be left incommunicado, because that is what it seems that they are waiting for in order to attend to our needs”, he stressed.
Paredes mentioned that the sectors most affected by the poor condition of the roads are San José, Monte Carmelo, Cochinera, Coronal and Las Torres. The neighbors have taken some corrective measures and have emptied debris in the road imperfections, but the material has also weakened with the rains and due to the continuous passage of vehicles.
