In the reference month there were 1.6 million unemployed people, for an unemployment rate of 2.6%.
“The increase in unemployment should not necessarily be interpreted as bad data. Within the Non-Economically Active Population, it is observed that the available population, that is, those people who are not looking for work but have the intention of working, decreased by 314,000 people. Probably the people who were in the available population were encouraged to try to get a job, and the 91,000 people who did not succeed became part of the unemployed population,” Banco Base said in a report.
“Regarding the duration of unemployment, 41.2% of this population was unemployed for a period of one month or less, while 36.4% did not have work for more than one month and up to three months,” detailed the Inegi.
Regarding underemployment, the rate was 8.9% in November (5.3 million people).
In the penultimate month of 2024, the economically active population (EAP) reached 61.6 million people aged 15 and over.
