In the past 20 years, the Institute of the National Workers’ Housing Fund (Infonavit) has granted 44 thousand 460 financings to same-sex couples for the acquisition of a new or existing house, which represent an economic benefit of 14 thousand 897 million pesos.
Of the total credits, granted to 22 thousand 230 couples, eight out of 10 were through Unamos Creditos Infonavit, a scheme in force since February 2020. Thus, with this product, 17 thousand 158 same-sex couples acquired in the previous two years a house jointly without the need for a marriage contract, while another 5,072 decided to buy their house through the Infonavit Spousal Credit.
The institute reported that couples who wish to combine their financing with any of these credit modalities must have a current employment relationship and meet the 1,080 pre-qualification points.
