Over the past five years, the National Workers’ Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) has practically doubled the discounts on the debts of borrowers who converted their financing from minimum wage (VSM) to pesos, benefiting more than 1,272,000 people.
While in 2019 discounts were granted for 48 billion pesos, at the end of June this year the figure increased to more than 87,737 million pesos, as part of the Shared Responsibility program, which seeks to prevent the monthly payment and the balance of the mortgage loan debt from increasing.
During this period, the number of beneficiaries increased from 184,793 to 1.2 million. The most pronounced increase was recorded between 2021 and 2022, going from 281,471 to more than 770,000 borrowers who converted their VSM financing to pesos.
The average benefit received by workers was 167,263 pesos, although there were cases in which Infonavit granted discounts of more than one million pesos.
