The general director of Strategic Interventions of the Ministry of Health, Valentina Alarcón, reported that the vaccines against influenza A H3N2 currently available in the country are intended only for the population considered at highest risk.
As indicated, vaccination is aimed at older adults, children under 5 years of age, pregnant women and people with comorbidities.
Those who are not part of these groups must wait for a new shipment, since doses outside the prioritized categories will not be applied.
Alarcón explained that the vaccines correspond to the campaign that began in April and that this is in its final phase. In that period, more than 6.5 million doses have been applied nationwide, with the aim of reducing gaps between those who still do not have access to annual immunization.
These doses will not include the H3N2-K subvariant and will offer an estimated protection of 70%, while maintaining the recommendation to reinforce preventive measures against respiratory infections.
