The influenza vaccination campaign in the northern region ends on Friday (31). The Ministry of Health recommends, however, that the doses in stock remain available to the population by July this year.
“The states of the region will continue to vaccinate and those who have not yet immunized against the flu can go to the nearest Basic Health Unit (UBS) and protect themselves,” said the folder, in a statement.
Started in September 2024, the campaign encompasses the following states: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. According to the ministry, so far, 3,225,266 doses have been applied, reaching 42.5%coverage.
The target population of the campaign, at first, was composed of pregnant women, young people, the elderly, children, indigenous peoples living in their territories and health workers. From now on, anyone from 6 months of life can be vaccinated.
Differentiated strategy
Since 2023, the northern flu immunization strategy has been done in the second half, considering climate particularities in the region – this time the so -called Amazonian winter happens, when viral circulation and flu transmission are more frequent.
In the other regions (Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and South), immunization is made in the first half, usually between March and April.
Understand
IMMUNIZATION AGAINST FLU is recommended for the entire non -vaccinated population from 6 months of age. The initiative, according to the Ministry, considers the local epidemiological situation, available stocks and strategies defined by state and municipal secretariats.
The dose used is the trivalent, that is, it has three types of virus strains in combination, protecting against major viruses in circulation in Brazil.
