Influenza cases increase in Nicaragua. In the week between July 3 and 9, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) carried out 270 tests, 190 of which were positive. Compared to the same period in 2022, the number of infections increased by 16.2%.
In total, this year, up to the month of July, there are 666 cases of influenza. The weekly report provided by the institution indicates that 1,667 cases of pneumonia were reported that same week.
Respiratory diseases increase in this rainy season, says epidemiologist Leonel Arguello.

Prevention
The symptoms of influenza are fever, cough, headache, muscle aches and sometimes loss of smell. “Almost all the illnesses of the flu disappear between 5 and 7 days,” says Dr. Argüello.
The epidemiologist points out that there are three types of influenza. “The incubation period goes from one to four days and the contagion time is 5 days, it is the period that you should stay away from the rest of the family and at rest.”
The care protocol must be similar to that of Covid 19; walk two meters away, wear a mask, sneeze into your elbow and stay in a ventilated room, highlights the expert.
The doctor explains that children under two years of age and elderly adults are at the ages with the highest risk factors. Due to the increase in cases of respiratory infections and covid 19, primary and secondary study centers resumed, since May, the use of a mandatory mask.
