Inflación se ha tragado alza salarial

The inflation has swallowed salary increases made last year and this year, the three main trade union centers in the country affirmed yesterday during a press conference.

The National Confederations of Dominican Workers (CNTD), National Union Unity (CNUS) and Autonomous Classist Union (CASC) considered that inflation has hit the pockets of workers.

The president of the CASC, Gabriel del Rio Donehighlighted that the workers achieved good salary gains in the years 2021 and 2022, especially in the construction, hotel and free zone sectorsbut “inflation is leading us down some difficult paths.”

He stated that if there had not been these salary increases, the situation of the workers it would be extremely difficult.

“We need a new salary increase to be able to balance the cost of living,” he said.

He highlighted the efforts made by the government to mitigate the effects of inflation on the population and gave as an example the importation of 56 products from the family basket they will not pay duty.

He considered that the country deserves that in the reform to Work code the conquests achieved such as unemployment are respected.

The president of the CNTD, James Ramos, demanded the improvement of labor inspection services. He requested that prevention work be increased in companies.

The conference was called to announce a concentration in the Mauricio Baez Squarelocated at the intersection of Kennedy with San Martín, on the occasion of commemorating International Labor Day this Sunday.
