Before 3,300 field technicians, agronomists, promoters, extension workers and local and national field researchers, he called for joining forces and wills to face the problem of inflation, which he said, like COVID-19, came from abroad.
“Just as we all faced the pandemic together, now we have to face this new challenge, also external,” he said.
The president highlighted that inflation in Mexico is below that of the United States, reporting that figures from the last report for the month of April highlight that in the neighboring country inflation is 8.3% and here 7.7%, but he acknowledged that it is , precisely, in the food where you have the problem.
“Where is it that we have the problem? In food, that is where the difference is; we have 3.6% of inflation due to food price increases and they (United States) have 1.3; there they beat us. In other merchandise we have an increase of 3.5 and they beat us with a 4.9 increase, but food is where we are down and we need to address this issue,” he said.
Thus, López Obrador highlighted the strategy that his government launched a few days ago to combat the rise in food prices in Mexico to contain the rise of
prices on 24 basic foods.
Within the framework of the anti-inflation strategy, this Thursday, the president launched the Production Days for Self-consumption in Jalisco and Nuevo León, whose objective is to increase the production of grains to curb the prices of products such as corn and beans and with them avoid their importation at more expensive prices.
