Inflation accelerates at the end of the electricity subsidy in November; minimum basket suffers the rise

At a biweekly rate, the non-core price index grew 1.93%. Within this, the prices of fruits and vegetables rose 1.34% and those of energy and rates authorized by the government, 2.92%.

The above, to a greater extent, due to the conclusion of the subsidy to the summer season electricity rate program in 11 cities in the country.

The Minimum Consumption Basket Index—which tracks the price of 170 essential goods—rose 0.71% in the fortnight and 3.69% annually, above the general index. This suggests that lower-income households resented recent adjustments more intensely, especially energy adjustments.

Electricity leads pressures

Among the products with the greatest increases, the following stood out:

  • Electricity (+20.70%)
  • Collective transportation (+4.32%)
  • Professional services (+10.56%)
  • Loncherías, inns and taquerias (+0.47%)

In contrast, some products helped contain inflation, such as:

  • Table wine (-9.43%)
  • Tequila (-6.01%)
  • Rum (-9.78%)
  • Avocado (-4.83%)
