It closed 2024 at 5.49%, within the BCU’s target range for the second consecutive year

With the December data, there are 19 consecutive months in which the indicator remains between 3 and 6% set by the entity.

Inflation in the month of December had a slight increase and closed 2024 at 5.49% in the annual accumulation, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported this Friday.

This implies that it was located within the target range set by the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU), which is between 3 and 6%. It is the second consecutive year that this has happened, after 2023 closed at 5.11%.

In turn, the indicator has been within the target range for 19 consecutive months. According to the Center for Development Studies (CED), this “confirms a new level of inflation […]consolidating a step reduction compared to the average of 8% of the previous 20 years,” as published in X.

On the other hand, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for December registered a monthly variation of 0.34%, so consumer prices showed an increase in the last month of the year, mainly explained by the food and beverage items. non-alcoholic (0.09%); housing (-0.19%); transportation (0.09%); recreation, sports and culture (0.17%), and restaurants and accommodation services (0.09%).

Meanwhile, core inflation had a monthly variation of 0.51%, an accumulated variation so far this year of 5.83% and one in the last 12 months of 5.83%.
