In a market dominated by models and brands with a long history and convenient positioning, the Ineos Grenadier reaches the off-road truck segment with a different proposal that clearly shows its vocation totally focused on extreme adventure and off-road driving. Designed to be a tool for work and fun, it was created to face the most extreme challenges of this discipline. To get to know it better, Juan Bosco, leader of Bosco’s Camp, took advantage of the launch event to make a first contact and preliminary tests.
Origin
The Ineos Grenadier, which shows clear inspiration in the Land Rover Defender, is the product of Jim Ratcliffe’s passion for enjoying a walk in the middle of nature in a vehicle that would be unstoppable. This truck combines German capability with a touch of British style. Its robust and aggressive appearance is reminiscent of a war plane ready to face a battle in the air.
Off-Road Capability
It is equipped with a BMW 3.0-liter turbo engine that produces 282 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, Brembo brakes and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Its permanent 4×4 traction and electromechanical center and front/rear differential locking system make it an off-road beast. The 4 Low lever and differential lock button allow for greater control in difficult terrain thanks to the ease of activating these systems.
Driving Test
Juan Bosco Martínez, route leader and Bosco’s Camp, carried out an exhaustive test drive on a highly difficult route designed by the brand for the presentation of the model in Mexico. Located in the surroundings of the El Chico National Park, in the state of Hidalgo, the Grenadier passed tests such as climbing a 38° slope, passing through a surface with changes in gradient created specifically to test the traction and grip capacity, descending a wall with loose gravel as well as driving horizontally on a 32° slope to test its anti-roll capacity.
Among the Grenadier’s equipment are:
- RECARO seats
- 5-link suspension with progressive coil springs
- 17” wheels and BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2 tires
- Tow hooks (2) on the front
- Front and rear anti-slip protective plates
- Gas tank protection plate
- Winch and snorkel for extreme routes
