The three-month national census concluded on October 31, however, by order of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the recovery phase will begin for 15 days to census the population that has not been able to access this process.
This announcement was made by the departmental director in Arequipa of the INEI, Silvia Pacheco, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Censuses: “XIII of Population, VIII of Housing and IV of Indigenous Communities” in the auditorium of the Catholic University of Santa María.
COVERAGE
The official stated that the jurisdiction of Arequipa is the second nationally with the greatest coverage in these censuses, 817,851 homes having been registered, exceeding the planned goal of 774,679 with which the census process began.
At the national level, coverage reached 97% of previously registered homesHowever, in the case of Arequipa, due to the existence of new homes, this percentage reached 107%.
Regarding the results of this year’s censuses, Silvia Pacheco said that these are in the process of being published as soon as possible.
“Since August when we started the work, there are condominiums, especially of the vertical type, that have been built in Arequipa and that were initially not inhabited, but now they are. So we are going to visit those condominiums so as not to omit anyone”commented on the process carried out since August 3.
EXPAND PROCESS
Regarding the extension for 15 days, Pacheco indicated that previously a evaluation of the necessary census takers to continue this work.
“We think that after this period of work an evaluation will be done again, the census will be definitively closed, or we will continue with recovery work until the end of the month”he noted.
During the closing ceremony there was a recognition of the census takers with the greatest coverage in the various districtsLikewise, special recognition was made to Juan Pablo Larico Huisa and Felicitas Postigo Medina as the oldest census takers in Arequipa.
