The executive general meeting of the National Electoral Institute (INE) approved an internal budget increase for 254 million pesos to give an advance to the company Talleres Graphicos de México in order to produce, with all security measures, the ballots that will be used for the election of the members of the Judiciary, next June 1st.
These resources will be taken from the savings that the institute had in the 2024 budget year.
On December 26, the members of this area of the INE authorized a budget of 500 million pesos for this same purpose; With the expansion, resources reach 754 million 34 thousand pesos for the organization of the election process of judges, magistrates and ministers.
Last night, in an extraordinary session of the board – in which the main directors of the INE converged – this determination was unanimously agreed upon, so for now resources from the 2025 budget are not touched.
Advance for production, storage and delivery
The intention is to give an advance to Talleres Graphicos de México for the production, storage and distribution of documents and materials for the electoral process of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, including ballots with security paper.
The INE estimates that 600 million ballots will be printed for the 881 positions that will be elected, including nine ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.
In addition to three magistrates and two magistrates of the Judicial Disciplinary Court; one magistrate and one magistrate from the upper chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, 10 magistrates and five magistrates from the regional chambers of that court, as well as circuit magistrates and district judges.
The electoral ballots will contain, among other information, the position, the federative entity and, where applicable, the judicial circuit that corresponds to each type of election; The full numbered names of the candidates will be printed on the front, distributed in alphabetical and progressive order, starting with the paternal surname, and indicating the specialization by subject when appropriate.
The day before, the same executive general meeting approved increasing the purchase of clothing to 97 million pesos, specifically vests and materials that will be used by electoral supervisors and trainers.
Likewise, this Monday there will be two sessions of the general council of the INE, one with political parties to analyze the issue of harmonization of the organization’s budget and another to continue analyzing the issue of the election in the Judiciary.
It is expected that in that session the electoral materials and the designs that the ballots will have will be endorsed.
