The National Electoral Institute (INE) will translate the ballots for the 2024 Children and Youth Consultation into the 10 indigenous languages with the largest number of monolingual speakers in the country, which will take place from November 1st to 30th.
In an extraordinary session, the General Executive Board endorsed the Procedure for assigning, exercising and verifying the resources required for volunteers who support the installation and operation of the Children and Youth Consultation 2024 polling stations, as well as volunteers in the translation into indigenous languages or adaptation to local variants of the ballots
.
For the tenth edition of the consultation, the INE has ordered that the participation of girls, boys and adolescents be carried out in a mixed mode, which means that during that month there will be an online platform and 43,217 boxes will be installed in spaces school, public and itinerant students of the 300 electoral districts of the country. To do this, the collaboration of people who attend to the participants who attend the polls, as well as for the translation of ballots, is required.
The institute highlighted that the translation seeks to include more people, for which the collaboration of volunteers from the community in question is contemplated. These people will not be hired by the INE, nor will they be able to provide an invoice or receipt of fees for the support received, hence the need to have an agreement that provides for the procedure for the proper application, management and verification of this support.
explained the executive director of Electoral Training and Civic Education, María Elena Cornejo Esparza.
Given these two needs and returning to the experience of the children’s consultations in 2018 and 2021, the procedure approved by the General Executive Board contemplates the parameters for the assignment of financial support of 200 pesos to volunteers for each day in which they support from the installation until the closing of a box.
In the case of the translation of consultation ballots into indigenous languages or the adaptation of the ballot to a local variant, an amount of 2,600 pesos was estimated as financial support.
