INE will continue with the processes in Edomex and Coahuila while there is a definition of "plan B"

The President Councilor of National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Córdova Vianello, said that this body will continue to organize the 2023 elections in Coahuila and the State of Mexico, while there is a decision on the electoral reform (Plan B) approved last week by Congress.

He reiterated that “there are those who want to launch campaigns for the INE and for our democracy, those must be told to put away their shovels because there will be no burial. The battle for the defense of democracy and our electoral system will continue, resorting to all legal means that are necessary to enforce our Constitution, and I am sure that in this cause we will have the full support of the citizenry.

We are attentive to the decisions of the three powers of the union in relation to an electoral reform that has already been voted on in both Chambers and that, as we have said, could profoundly disrupt the electoral system that Mexico has built and perfected for more than three decades. “, said.

In a video message on Sunday, the President Councilor said that “at the INE we continue to work to continue guaranteeing the political rights of citizens and free and transparent elections, as we have done since 2014, and We are attentive to the decisions of the Powers of the Union regarding the reform electoral”.

Córdova Vianello affirmed that an electoral reform that touches the electoral referee is pertinent only if it is to improve the system, based on a serious, truthful and real diagnosis; that serves to broaden the rights of citizenship, and that arises from a broad consensus among political forces.

“Unfortunately, the reform that the legislative majority approved does not meet any of these conditions. That majority of senators and representatives from the ruling coalition is undoubtedly legitimate. It emanated (sic) precisely from legal, equitable and professionally organized elections by the INE in 2018 and 2021”.

“However, it is not for democrats to legislate with the back turned to the citizenry, to majority instead of seeking consensus and to approve visions that clearly violate the autonomy of the INE, seriously affect the capacity of the institute to guarantee authentic elections and put at risk the essential principles of the electoral function,” he said.

He described as serious that in the process of approval of the so-called electoral “Plan B” of the federal governmentthat legislative majority of Morena has resorted to the disqualification of the INE and even the threat towards the advisers and officials.

“It is also noteworthy that 22 governors of those same parties use disqualification as the only support to express their support for the reform,” he criticized.

Lorenzo Córdova stated that all the country’s governors, including those of Morena who today criticize the INE with statements that it does not stand the test of autonomy, were elected in processes organized by that electoral body.

“Fortunately, a majority of Mexican men and women trust their electoral body, in the cleanliness of the elections and in the work that thousands of workers from the INE and from Local Public Organizations throughout the country carry out daily throughout the country. “, Held.
