They plan to ignore calls
The opposition was reduced to 134 deputies, as expected. In addition to the PAN’s 32 district victories, 40 deputies would be added for a bench of 72.
The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which won nine districts in the Fuerza y Corazón Coalition together with the PAN, would have 26 plurinominal and a parliamentary group of 35 seats.
Citizen Movement, the party that ran alone, would have one majority seat and 26 proportional representation seats for a total of 27 spaces.
For weeks, INE councilors have received in audience leaders of the Citizen Movement, National Action (PAN) and civil organizations, who asked them to apply a criterion that privileges plurality and the spirit of the electoral reform of 1996 that created the figure of overrepresentation so that the parties with fewer votes could have more seats.
The project that will be discussed this Wednesday, for now, applied the literal meaning of the Constitution, and provides that all parties are overrepresented with a maximum of 8%, so each of the parties of the coalition of the so-called Fourth Transformation were valued separately.
In the Senate, the 4T bloc would be just three votes away from achieving a qualified majority on its own.
Morena had 46 victories as a majority or first minority in the states, and those seats will add 14 plurinominal for a total of 60.
The Green Party would add its 11 majority senators to three pluris for a total of 14, and the PT with seven majority senators elected and two pluris would have nine senators.
These three parties will have 83 senators, and the 4T would need three more votes to approve all the constitutional reforms sent to it by the Chamber of Deputies.
The PAN won 16 majority senators (as the leading force and as the leading minority) and will add six pluris for a bench of 22.
The PRI won twelve majority senators and four proportional representation seats will be added for a total of 16 seats.
Movimiento Ciudadano won two majority senatorial seats and will have three plurinominal seats for a parliamentary group of five members.
As in the Chamber of Deputies, in the Senate the opposition will not have a third of the senators to promote actions of unconstitutionality against laws or reforms that it considers contrary to the Constitution.
