Given the exceedance of expectations regarding the number of people registered in the voluntary retirement program of the National Electoral Institute (INE), the Executive General Board (JGE) of this body determined to increase the budget for this purpose from 100 to 350 million pesos.
Around 970 workers – most of them from the administrative branch, although there are also more than 200 from the National Electoral Professional Service – registered to receive financial compensation upon their termination, an unprecedented number considering that the total payroll of the INE is just over 18 thousand workers throughout the country.
Jesús García, office manager of the executive directorate of administration of the INE, explained the reasons for this modification for the special personnel retirement and recognition program.
He stressed that the requirement to register is to have at least 10 years of service in the INE, calculated as of December 31, 2025, which makes it possible for personnel with different entry dates to participate.
“Considering that the number of people enrolled in the program exceeded expected expectations, it is considered appropriate to have a greater provision of resources than those initially approved to benefit more people from this institution, in order to recognize their work history through the granting of an economic benefit.”
He explained that the same guidelines provide that if there are greater resources, the financial ceiling may be increased. However, in last night’s session it was not specified where the additional 250 million will specifically come from.
The number of people interested in this program is unprecedented and comes after the announcement of an electoral reform that seeks to reduce the country’s political spending.
Given the accumulation of requests, the JGE twice extended the scheduled date to review personnel files and next Monday must give a response as to who will be accepted for payment of compensation, now with a higher budget ceiling.
The bonus for this special program consists of three months of gross salary and 20 days per year worked, plus the severance pay granted in accordance with the law and the internal regulations of the institute.
At the end of the night session of the JGE, the president advisor of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, thanked the different areas for the work carried out and the members of the JGE (the main directors, unit heads and national coordinators of the institute) for unanimously approving the expansion of resources for this purpose.
