Taddei insisted that he will defend the requested figure, however, he admitted the probability that in December or January the INE will have to adjust its budget, after a possible cut.
“They didn’t even tell me estimates or percentages. (Nor) ‘hey, president, lower it 30%’, of course not,” he said as he left the meeting in the Chamber of Deputies.
“Every time the Chamber of Deputies makes an adjustment (…) each institution has to rearrange its budget when it is modified in the slightest amount, and we will have to experience that in December itself, or in January entering the next year.”
The president advisor of the INE indicated that INE personnel carry out an analysis of the possible items to reduce. The original amount and the alternatives will be topics of the meeting next Thursday, when the INE budget commission will meet with that of the Chamber of Deputies.
“We are convinced that this budget corresponds to the installation of the boxes that we estimated at that time. Yes, the areas of the Institute are working for a possible budget reduction in various scenarios, and the Institute cannot talk about adjustments right now until the Chamber of Deputies (the) says,” Taddei said.
At the end of the meeting, Taddei assured that the INE has always suffered cuts and “battled” for the amount requested.
The INE requested 13,205 million pesos from the Chamber of Deputies to hold the election on June 1, 2025, as there will be more than 800 judicial positions, but President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the requested spending ceiling.
“The election should not cost so much, democracy cannot cost the people of Mexico so much and there is a way to reduce the costs,” said the president, recalling that last June’s election, which was federal, cost less than projected for 2025.
The president of the Budget Commission and Morena deputy, Merilyn Gómez Pozos, who led the meeting with Taddei, along with the president of the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Gutiérrez Luna, insisted that costs will be reduced because they will not It is feasible to accept the INE’s request.
According to the legislator, it is possible that the final figure is 9,000 million pesos:
