At the end of 2021, industrial production and trade sales in Colombia showed increases, according to the Monthly Manufacturing Survey prepared by Dane, which revealed that in December 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, the real production of the manufacturing industry increased 13.1%, real sales 11.2% and employed personnel 4.5%.
(Industrial production went into double digits in November 2021).
With a variation of 20.8%, beverage manufacturing was the industrial activity that contributed the most positively (2.6 pp) to the annual variation in real production.
For its part, Coffee threshing, with a variation of -30.5%, was the activity with the highest negative contribution (-0.2 pp).
In relation to employed personnel, Garment manufacturing, with a variation of 10.1%, was the domain that contributed the most positively (0.9 pp) to the total annual variation (4.5%); followed by Manufacture of fabricated metal products, with a variation of 6.0% and a contribution of 0.3 pp
The report for the year to date (January-December 2021) in the national total, warns that the real production of the manufacturing industry increased 15.9%, real sales 15.5% and employed personnel 2.7% compared to the same period in 2020.
In the twelve months of last year, beverage manufacturing registered a variation of 21.6% in real production compared to the twelve months of the previous year and was the domain with the greatest positive contribution (2.5 pp) to the variation of production during this period. For its part, with a variation of -6.3%, Manufacture of sugar and panela was the domain with the greatest negative contribution (-0.2 pp) to the total variation for the year to date.
TRADE SALES
In the case of commerce, the Dane monthly survey showed that retail and vehicle activity presented a variation of 15.9% in their real sales in December 2021 compared to the same month in 2020. Excluding fuel and vehicle sales, this annual variation was 17.6%.
Meanwhile, the employed personnel in retail and vehicle trade reflected a variation of 1.9% in December 2021 compared to the same month of the previous year.
Sales made through electronic commerce increased 47.8% in December 2021 compared to the same month of the immediately previous year, contributing 1.2 pp to the annual variation of total retail trade sales, excluding sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and their parts (24.2%).

When comparing December 2021 with the same month of 2019, the variation of the real sales of the retail and vehicles in December 2021 was 13.0%. However, when comparing the year 2021 with 2020, the variation in actual sales was 17.8%. This variation without the sale of fuel or vehicles was 11.8%.
In the case of employment, for last year this variation was -1.1% compared to 2020, while compared to December 2019 the variation in employed personnel in December 2021 was -5.3%.
