The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (indotel), in alliance with the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), left an extension of the educational institution in operation in the Tetelo Vargas Computer Training Center, in the province of San Pedro de Macoris.
With a total investment amounting to RD$16,482,547.0, the aforementioned center will offer short-cycle training and diplomas in the modalities of software development, multimedia, networks and computer security in four classrooms fully equipped with 64 computers.
The President of the Board of Directors of the indotel, Nelson Arroyo, expressed that with the operation of this extension of the ITLA in San Pedro de Macorís, a response will be given to the need of the academic community to expand to geographical areas that do not have institutions specialized in the training of new technologies.
In addition, the parties signed an agreement that provides for the granting of 800 scholarships per year for short-term courses and workshops for young people, students, adults, men and women from the Eastern Region of the country, with a vision of gender equality, including people with different abilities and in a situation of vulnerability, allowing them to take a study program to obtain a certification in short-term courses and workshops in the field of digital technologies.
Also, the president of the indotel He indicated that the center will provide new opportunities for thousands of young people from different parts of the eastern region of the country to be able to prepare themselves to be part of the digital transformation that new times demand.
On his side, the rector of the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), Omar Méndez Lluberes, highlighted the importance of the Extensions project ITLA, which is part of the Government Program of President Luis Abinader, responding to the need to increase access to training in the Dominican Republic and reduce the costs of participation of students in their studies.
“Through these extensions, we are bringing technology education within the reach of all our citizens, which will allow them to develop their skills, expand their employment opportunities and improve their quality of life,” said Méndez Lluberes.
With the opening of the Computer Training Center (CCI) Tetelo Vargas – extension ITLA San Pedro de Macorís, Nelson Arroyo, president of the regulatory body, complies with its policy of supporting the promotion of universal service and the reduction of the digital divide, as well as the creation of spaces aimed at training children, youth and adults of scarce resources in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
Also present at the event were the indotel the members of the Board of Directors Príamo Ramírez, Hilda Patricia Polanco and its executive director, Julissa Cruz. Likewise, Neuris Gómez, vice-rector for Extensions of the ITLA; Víctor Henry, Academic Vice Chancellor of the ITLA and the Minister for Women, Mayra Jiménez.
The local authorities were represented by the governor of the San Pedro de Macorís province, Aracelis Villanueva; and the mayors Raymundo Ortiz, head municipality; Guayacanes, Noel Cedeno; Comfort, Juan Padilla; San José de los Llanos, Osiris Guirado; Gautier, Rafael Anglon; The Port, Juan Pacheco; Quisqueya, Richard Montilla; Ramón Santana, Santa Valdez, the deputies Fior Daliza Peguero and Carolina Paula.
