INDOMET reports heavy downpours over much of the country

INDOMET reporta fuertes aguaceros sobre gran parte del país

Santo Domingo. – The National Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported tonight that a large cloud field covers a large part of the national territory, generating unstable conditions that are already causing moderate to heavy rains, thunderstorms and gusts of wind in multiple provinces.

According to the organization, the doppler radars Punta Cana and Puerto Plata register intense areas of precipitation over La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Azua, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Valverde, Monte Cristi and Santiago Rodríguez.

Indomet indicated that these rains will continue to gradually spread to other locations over the next few hours. The situation is due to the effects of a trough that affects the country, combined with a frontal system located to the north of the territory, which is approaching the area.

Tomorrow

For this Sunday, Indomet predicts a reduction in moisture content and other conditions in the upper levels of the atmosphere that will limit the occurrence of precipitation, although the trough will remain in the area.

The morning will be mostly clear, while in the afternoon and early evening there could be isolated showers and thunderstorms in provinces such as La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, Azua, Independencia, Bahoruco and Elías Piña.

Finally, the organization recommended that the population remain attentive to the next meteorological bulletins and the guidelines of civil protection organizations, especially in areas vulnerable to flooding.
