The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has warned about the monitoring of two meteorological phenomena that could affect the country’s climate in the coming days. It is a low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico and a tropical wave, both with the potential to generate rain in the national territory.
According to Indomet, the low pressure system located near the coast of Texas has a 10% chance of evolving into a cyclone in the next 48 hours. At the same time, an active tropical wave is being monitored located several hundred kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles, which also has a 10% chance of cyclonic development in the next 48 hours and 40% in the next week.
The forecast for Sunday afternoon suggests that a trough at various levels of the atmosphere, combined with the effect of warming, could trigger intense rains. These precipitations will be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of wind, affecting areas of Greater Santo Domingo, Hato Mayor, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Sánchez Ramírez, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez and Monte Plata.
