The aggressor’s wife rejected the act.
News Colombia.
A serious case of gender violence occurred last Sunday, July 27 at El Dorado airport in Bogotá, when a man physically assaulted a woman in a waiting room. The fact, captured in video and broadcast on social networks, shows how Héctor Favio Santacruz Marulanda gave Claudia Patricia Segura, a contractor lawyer of the district, in the midst of a discussion for a chair that, according to the aggressor, was reserved for his wife.
The victim said that the man threatened her with phrases such as “gets up or lifted” before hitting her, causing visible injuries, loss of a arete and the damage of his mobile phone. After the attack, Claudia lost knowledge and had to be transferred in a wheelchair to receive medical care. The incident occurred in room 9 of the air terminal, before the eyes of other travelers.
The case has generated rejection due to the way in which the situation was handled inside the airport. The victim’s defense denounced that no specialized protocol was activated to address cases of gender violence. In addition, they pointed out that Claudia was revictimized when transported in the same institutional truck as her aggressor to the Engativá URI facilities.

The Attorney General’s Office received the complaint for personal injuries with the aggravating gender violence, and the aggressor was available to the authorities. The Airport Police acted there, but has also been questioned for not activating differential mechanisms to protect the woman attacked or offer psychosocial accompaniment.
Héctor Santacruz’s wife spoke on social networks through the official account of her company, where she publicly rejected her husband’s behavior. In his message, he said that the aggression does not represent the values of his family or the company, and assured that he will respond to justice. He also pointed out that, as a woman and founder, he will assume the consequences that the situation has for his image and his brand.
Feminist Human and Collective Rights Organizations have already demanded from the Prosecutor’s Office and civil aeronautics an urgent review of victim care protocols in airport environments. In addition, they urged to guarantee justice in this case and to send a clear message against violence against women, especially in public spaces where institutions must act quickly and differential approach.
