In recent days, the indigenous communities of San José de Kayamá and Sierra Maigualida, between Bolívar and Amazon states, have been suffering from the outbreak of diseases that affect the respiratory tract in a short time, reported the civil association kape kape.
The information disclosed does not specify if the symptoms are related to covid-19. However, Alirio Juae Molo, a Jodï indigenous person and leader of the community of San José de Kayamá, who is a health agent in his community, pointed out that the symptoms presented by the patients are similar to pneumonia.
Likewise, he told the NGO that there have already been two people who have died from respiratory conditions, and in the place they do not have medicines to attend to patients.
He added that the Institute of Public Health of the state of Bolívar, through the Coordination of Indigenous Health, offered medicines and supplies that they have not been able to take to the community because they do not have resources to cover air freight, since by land and roads the route is done in seven or eight days.
Nor have they received air support from institutions that are present in the area and that have aircraft. Among them the Government and the military components.
Juae warned that the delay in the transfer of medicines can aggravate the situation of the community.
“There is no support from any institution to be able to transfer medicines to our community. Our brothers are dying, there is no compassion from anyone, “wrote Alirio Juae, through social networks, while requesting the greatest dissemination of this situation.
Kapé Kapé explained that the community of San José de Kayamá is home to Jodï and eñapa families, which has a population of approximately 1,400 inhabitants, and is one of the most remote in the entity.
