Three young Yanomami indigenous people were murdered by miners in the Homoxi region, in the Yanomami Indigenous Land, in Roraima. The information was released this Sunday (5) by Júnior Hekurari, president of the District Council for Indigenous Health Yanomami and Ye’Kuana (Codisi-YY), one of the main leaders of the Surucucu region, in the extreme west of the state and close to the border with to Venezuela. According to reports, they were hit by firearms.
There is still no information about the recovery of the bodies. The report of Brazil Agency contacted the Federal Police (PF) to obtain information about the case, but has not yet received a response.
The Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sonia Guajajara, spent a night at the base pole in Surucucu, this Sunday, to see the situation of the Yanomami up close. She also flew over several points of illegal mining in the territory.
Affected by the presence of illegal mining on their lands for years, the Yanomami indigenous people have suffered from cases of malnutrition, diseases such as malaria and pneumonia, as well as violence, including episodes of aggression and murder. The situation has worsened over the last four years.
Also on that Sunday, the death of another indigenous child, victim of severe malnutrition and dehydration. Medical teams even asked for their removal to Boa Visa, but the bad weather in the region prevented the aircraft from taking off.
