Indigenous people deliver basts of command to new ministers of the Court

“That all deities (help them) in a positive way to get ahead and you govern (sic) with all the trust and all the support of our beloved Mexico. They guide (their) way,” said a traditional doctor as part of the ritual.

“It is the moment of change Brother Hugo (Aguilar), that you go ahead and that if there is any negative energy, you go ahead. That the laws are for the good of all of Mexico. That the cosmic force one to all of us,” he added.

While the ministers raised their arms and were “bathed” with incense and copal, the traditional doctor also asked them to act with humility, fraternity and commitment.

Without the judicial reform and the election of June 1, said Minister President -elect, Hugo Aguilar, indigenous peoples would not have the presence they have in the public life of the country today.

“Just a year ago it was unimaginable that his server, as indigenous, as people of the people, despite the studies, despite the work, despite the merits, it was unimaginable that he was today talking to them in the position of minister,” he said.

“Giving power to the people frees the people, empowers the people and places us in the possibility of leading their greatest desires, the yearning for justice that is needed in every corner of our homeland. It is undoubtedly a huge step in our country.”

“It’s an honor, being with Hugo today,” tens of people chanted after the first part of the ceremony, called purification.

During the formal delivery of the canes of command to each of the ministers, the indigenous representatives asked them to implement “well” justice, not forget the people, “make you want”, do justice, and boost freedom and peace, among other messages.

Martha Bautista, municipal president, of the municipality of San Agustín Tlacotepec, Oaxaca, place of origin of Aguilar, asked the minister to boost justice for all Mexicans. “All our power for you,” he said.

Two hours before protesting in the Senate, Aguilar defined the new members of the Court as the “people” ministers.

“As the ministers and ministers of the people because we have fulfilled and we are here in the mandate of article 39 of the Constitution,” he said.
