The country’s indigenous communities choose this Sunday, August 3 to their councilors in 69 municipalities in the country, a week after the municipal elections were held, where 335 mayors and councilors were elected.
The states in which the elections are being carried out are: Amazonas, Apure, Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Monagas, Sucre and Zulia.
For the elections in indigenous areas, 88 voting centers were enabled with a total of 111 electoral tables, which were installed last Saturday, August 2, said the vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Carlos Quintero.
Deputy Aníbal Sánchez detailed in his X account This “is an indirect, second -degree process” in which 6,598 spokesmen previously selected in 4,061 community assemblies are participating, who voted in general assemblies to choose the councilors.
The Rector of the CNE recalled that officials of the Republic Plan, headed by National Armed Forces (FAN), guard the voting centers and the electoral material in the eight states where the councilors’ elections for indigenous representation are held.
Carlos Quintero said the results of these elections will be given on Monday, August 4.
Sanchez said that “this election seeks to strengthen the political participation of indigenous peoples, ensuring that their representatives in the municipal councils defend their rights and promote their needs, in line with their social and cultural structures.”
Last Sunday, July 27, the municipal elections were held and the governing body indicated that 6.27 million citizens participated, of the 21.5 million registered.
