In Colombia, solidarity and kindness are deeply rooted values. Giving a hand, offering a glass of water or providing help to need are daily actions. However, not all correspond to gratitude. In Floridablanca, Santander, a fact recorded by a security camera showed how the generosity of an older adult was betrayed by a man who, taking advantage of his trust, stole his earrings.
Everything happened when a man, who apparently, was passed as a seller, approached the woman’s house with a simple request: water. The lady, without thinking twice, agreed to help him, in a gesture that reflects the popular saying “a glass of water is not denied to anyone.”
In the images you can see how the woman goes to the interior of her house while the supposed seller awaits her outside. Upon returning, he gives man what they seem to be bottles with water. Until that time, everything seemed a solidarity act.
From gratitude to abuse: unexpected theft
But what followed left many speechless. He barely received the water, the man took advantage of an oversight, introduced his arms between the bars of the door and violently snatched the earrings he was wearing. The woman, surprised and scared, began to shout while the man flees from the place.

The act, considered by many as a betrayal of trust, caused a wave of indignation in social networks. Hundreds of users expressed their rejection for this type of behavior that undermines people’s solidarity.
“Because of people like that, it is that solidarity people tell themselves to make favors,” wrote an Internet user.
“You can no longer try to help anyone … because to know who is good or bad is difficult,” said another.
“Not even water can be given because they are stolen,” they lamented.
This type of facts highlights the importance of continuing to be supportive, but also to act with caution.
